Louisburgh- 6/23/2013
One thing (among many) my Irish friend, Marie, certainly was right about is what a beautiful place we found in her hometown of Louisburgh. We are still travelling North up the Western coast of Ireland, to this stunningly beautiful area of the country. We wished we could have stayed for several days and hiked and biked the many local trails that started right in our little town. As it was, after being served some delicious tea and biscuits (that means cookies for us), I had a walk on my own down to the gorgeous beach (they assure me that it does actually get warm enough to sunbathe and swim from time to time) and through the field (the yearly horse show had been right there the day before we arrived and all of the gates were set up – I resisted the urge to try to jump any of them) and down several small roads into the quaint little village (ok, I was with about an inch of the village and I turned back because mother nature was calling, but I did see it the next day and it is REDICULOUSLY quaint). Anyway, a lovely hour or so of walking, then met up with hubbie and walked up the hill to the sea cliffs and a short ways along the cliffs until it became unsafe, but it felt like a dream, walking along the sea up on a grassy bluff with sheep and cows grazing nearby – just what I imagine when I think of Ireland – and every bit as beautiful. What a lovely place to while away several days, beach weather or no, I would be happy to go back any time and envy Marie her childhood here (can’t quite figure out how she could have possilbly gotten so fiesty from these beginnings, though). We sadly took leave of Louisburgh the next day, but were in for another dose of something special in our next destination, Letterkenny.
