About Us

Stephen and I met at Michigan State University in 1993

where we lived in student co-operative housing together.  We discovered a mutual desire to see the world and upon graduation moved to London together on student work visas for 6 months before travelling through Europe on rail passes for about 7 weeks.  It was difficult to return home, but we came back, started our careers, and completed graduate school while taking every opportunity possible to travel both in our country and abroad.  In 2002, 9 years after we began dating, we finally tied the knot and celebrated with 2 months in Asia on Cathay Pacific’s All-Asia airline pass.  We vowed to take at least 2 months to travel every 5 years, but were only able to squeeze out one month in New Zealand (which we absolutely loved) in 2007.  We celebrated our 10-year wedding anniversary in 2012 both in the midst of busy careers and decided that instead of taking a 2-month trip, we would plan for something much bigger.  On May 7, 2013 we began a world-wide adventure expected to last approximately 18 months. Unfortunately, due to some health issues, we were not able to complete our journey at that time.  We have decided to break our trip into smaller chunks.  First, we did parts of Europe and Marocco in 2013, then to South America in 2014, Southeast Asia and Australia in 2016 and now we are doing a short tour of the Middle East in 2019.  We are certain the adventure will continue from here.

We hope to keep our family and friends updated as we go through this blog and plot out or course as we determine it.  We heartily encourage all to come and join us if we are going to parts of the world you have dreamed of visiting!
