Hall’s Gap, Australia – The Grampions
April 10-12, 2016
Although we were less than two hours from Melbourne in Healdsville, we decided to do a circle around the city and catch all the highlights on our way in, since Aunt Maureen would eventually be flying home out of Melbourne.
We headed North and West, therefore, out of Healdsville to Hall’s Gap, in the Grampion Mountain Range. Hall’s Gap is a very little resort city with not much going on, but the rock formations in the park and fabulous trails made the trip definately worth our while. We got to do a short hike before the sun set on the day we arrived and a more extensive loop the next day. We again were exceedingly impressed with the state of the parks and trails in Australia. Lovely views and hikes aside, the highlight of this area was definately the wildlife and their complete indifference to us. We passed troops of Kangaroos en route to our hiking trail, had a large kukaberra sitting on the grill on our porch for about an hour, had multiple cockatoos on the railing and even had a kangaroo who hung out in our back yard, coming right up to where we were sitting, munching grass without a care in the world….it was simply marvelous! We felt we could have enjoyed a couple of more days and a few more trails in the area, but onward to the Great Ocean Drive!
