Krotchety Kangaroo – If this works, here is a funny video I took on Kangaroo Island of a kangaroo…..I was trying to capture him hopping, but he had other ideas….

Victor Harbor & Kangaroo Island, Australia

April 21-24, 2016

Back on the coast again, this time south of Adelaide, we enjoyed staying in a place with lovely views over the hills and ocean. We had sheep and alpacas (not native to Australia) outside roaming on the hillsides. We chose this location because we read about the Encounter Bike Trail, a 15-mile trail that went along the coast from Apollo Bay. We were not disappointed by the ride or the weather, and treated ourselves to some fish&chips on the way back. From town, there was a causway from a very small amusement park to a small island off of the coast. For $7 (one way) you could have a ride down the causway in a wooden carriage pulled by a Clydsdale (also not native to Australia). We choose to walk the 150 or so yards ourselves. The big attraction on the island was a penguin colony, but unfortunatey the penguins only seem to come out at night, so we didn’t get to see them. The island itself, however, was truly lovely with interested rock formations and a big hill in the center. We thouroughly enjoyed our visit to the island and to Apollo Bay.

The next day we headed out early to get the fairy to Kangaroo Island. Kangaroo Island is Australia’s third larges island and home to a great array of wildlife and also Flinders Chase National Park. We drove straight to the park after the fairy docking (about a two hour drive to the other side of the island) to try to be certain to get a hike in before dark. We saw a couple of the main attractions (Remarkable Rocks and Captain Somebody’s Arch) and then headed out on a trail to one of the loveliest little secluded beaches we have ever seen. The rocks jutted on either side of the lovely white expanse and the waves were crashing at great heights. No time for a swim as it was probably too dangerous with the waves, too chilly and almost dark, but we will continue to remember this lovely spot for years to come.
