Lossiemouth and Elgin, July 12, 2013
Now we come to a Scottish experience which was pretty much completely unexpected by me….the BEACH! Not really something that I associate with Scotland given its northerly location, but we spent one night outside of Elgin in this lovely town fabulously named Lossiemouth (it was at the mouth of the Lossie river, of course). We arrived at our B&B from inland and while Steve was checking e-mail and Joan was settling in, I ventured out to see if I could procure a diet coke. I walked one very short block from the B&B and discovered an absolutely stunning beach which was reached by a long wooden bridge that was built over the very end bit of the Lossie. This beach is essentially a huge sandbar, complete with dunes and a lovely view out to the North Sea and back to the hilly town. It was a beautiful, warm, summer day and the beach was full of locals and visitors alike.
We enjoyed a long walk on the beach and then went to a restaurant across the street and whiled away the evening with drinks and dinner, all the time enjoying the beach view and summer spirit.
The next day we stopped in Elgin to see the remains of yet another impressive cathedral. We found the little town center and all agreed that it was a very nice, small, but bustling place. They even had a Starbucks, which you know always makes me happy.
Off to Aberdeen, our final destination in Scotland.
