Back to Rome after 29 Years

It has been almost 30 years since we visited this ancient city. We were travelling by train then and things looked much different. It is amazing, in spite of that, that Rome seems in many ways the same. It is still a thrill to wander the streets of the old city and come out upon fantastically designed monuments, squares, fountains, stairs, etc. One thing that strikes me most that I don’t recall is the beauty of the natural land areas. The Tiber is lined with beautiful old trees and the conifers flanking old walls and ruins are majestic and regal. We missed the full bloom of spring, but we are starting our travels out with delightful green trees and beautiful, mild weather.

Jewish artichokes, amazing. We saw them at the market and then looked for a restaurant that served them. Apparently it is only fresh in April! Delicious!

  1. We had a lovely stroll throught the Borghese gardens, tried to get tickets to the gallery, but didn’t feel too bad about the fact that they were all sold out! Catacombs sound super cool but we had a small time in Rome. We will have to hit it next time!

  2. Rome is awesome, one of my favorite places to run is through the Villa Borghese gardens. Last time I visited Rome, we hit the catacombs just outside the city, really interesting site as long as you’re not claustrophobic.

  3. Oh my! Your photos are grand – many thanks for sharing your travels! I’ll watch for more posts. Safe travels!
