The lunar (Chinese) new year is coming and Chinatown is aglow with New Year paraphanelia and especially monkeys….2016 is the year of the monkey.
Even in the temples, they are gearing up for lunar (Chinese) new year. Monkeys everywhere!
This local is excited for the year of the monkey!
This is a skyscraper with a twist. The platform on top spans the three towers….amazing!
A Hindu temple in little India…very diverse Asian and Western culture here.
The founder of Singapore, what would he think of this skyline now. This city is a far cry from its Colonial beginings.
Lots of these everywhere, beautiful!
An island in an island, Sentosa is Singapore’s resort area with beaches and theme parks. Much more developed than the last time we were here, we had fond memories of having a beer in a beach shack with our friends, now it is like disneyland.
The merlion is Singapore’s self-proclaimed mascot. This big half lion, half fish, towers over Sentosa.
Worth the small change to get up in the lion’s mouth.
Singapore – January 29-31, 2016 Steve and I had the great fortune to travel to Singapore for two weeks about 17 years ago. This time, we just got a two night stopover. Singapore is a delightful juxtaposition of East meets West, a place where you can enjoy all of the feel of an Eastern Chinatown, but also look at incredibly modern highrises and theme parks. A very cosmopolitan city, it sill seems to be defined by the activeness of its ports, with ships lining up for miles in every direction to load/unload their wares.
