Columbia, Bogota

June 1, 2014

Bogota, cool, beautiful, interesting, mountainous. At 8,612 ft., Bogota seems to be in a completely different climate than the rest of Columbia and we got a break from the hot and extremely humid weather we had been experiencing in the Amazon. Unfortunately, we only had one day in Bogota, but we were able to do a pretty thorough tour of the old town area where we stayed in addition to taking the funicular up the local hill for good city views. We had a very friendly hotel and found a neat little place for dinner tucked away in one of the narrow streets nearby. It had a roaring fire inside, and they served up

some excellent local fare with a bit of boxed wine. The gold museum was the thing to see in Bogota, but unfortunately it was closed on Mondays which was, of course, the day we were there. We felt as if we could have easily spent several days exploring and enjoying Bogota, but it was time to head out again to visit Cartegena, a destination we had been greatly looking forward to…..
